Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

At Recovery In Tune, our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers a flexible but intensive treatment option for those facing addiction and mental health challenges.

You’ll receive therapy during the day while returning home or to sober living in the evening.  Whether you’re stepping down from inpatient hospitalization or need more structure than outpatient treatment, our PHP provides the support you need to help you recover.

Read on to learn more about how our PHP can support your journey to lasting recovery.

What Is a PHP for Addiction?

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a structured treatment program where you receive care for addiction during the day but return home or to sober housing at night.

It provides many of the same therapies as inpatient care, including individual counseling, group therapy, and mental health treatment, without requiring you to stay overnight.

Unlike intensive outpatient programs (IOP) where you attend a few times each week, PHPs run for five or six days of the week. This gives you intensive care while still allowing time to manage your daily responsibilities.

In PHP, you’ll work with mental health professionals — like therapists, social workers, and psychiatrists — to create a treatment plan that fits your needs. You’ll build coping skills, practice mindfulness, and participate in therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

A PHP is a great option if you need more support than outpatient care but don’t require 24/7 supervision in a hospital setting. Many people move on to outpatient treatment after PHP to continue their recovery.

Therapies in Our PHPs at Recovery In Tune

Our PHP includes a range of therapies to address addiction and any co-occurring mental illnesses or mood disorders, such as anxiety or depression. It allows people from all walks of life, adolescents and upwards, to improve their mental and behavioral health in a supportive, caring environment.

Individual Counseling

During individual counseling, you’ll work one-on-one with a therapist to explore the root causes of your substance use. Together, you’ll create personalized strategies to help you build healthier habits and stay on track.

Family and Relationship Counseling

Addiction can affect your relationships with loved ones. Family therapy sessions help repair communication and rebuild trust, allowing family members to support your recovery and understand their role in the process.

Trauma Therapy

If past trauma has contributed to your addiction, our trauma-informed therapy offers a safe environment for healing. You’ll learn how to process difficult emotions and manage triggers in a supportive, non-judgmental space.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based therapy that focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. You’ll gain practical tools to manage triggers and prevent relapse by reshaping your response to stress.

Adventure Based Therapy

Adventure therapy integrates outdoor activities like hiking and team-building exercises to build resilience, self-confidence, and personal growth. These activities encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and develop new skills.

Music Therapy

Music therapy uses music to explore emotions, reduce stress, and improve mental health. You’ll engage with music through listening, playing instruments, or songwriting as part of your healing process.

Art Therapy

Art therapy allows you to express emotions creatively when words aren’t enough. Through painting, drawing, or sculpture, you’ll learn to process complex feelings and improve emotional well-being.

Who Can Benefit from a Substance Abuse PHP?

A substance abuse partial hospitalization program is ideal if you need more support than outpatient care provides but don’t require 24-hour residential treatment.

It offers a structured environment where you can focus on recovery during the day while returning to a stable home or sober living environment in the evening.

A PHP benefits those who have completed detox or stabilization and need intensive care to stay on track. It’s a good fit if you’re managing your daily responsibilities but still need consistent support to maintain recovery.

PHP works well for people dealing with both addiction and co-occurring mental health issues, offering therapies to address both at the same time. If you’re unsure whether PHP is the right choice, our team can recommend the level of care that fits your unique situation.

How Long Do PHPs Last?

PHPs can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on your individual needs and progress. The length of the program is based on the severity of your addiction, any co-occurring mental health conditions, and how you respond to treatment.

Your treatment team will regularly evaluate your progress and adjust your care plan to ensure you’re receiving the right level of support.

Some people complete PHP in a shorter time if they meet their goals quickly, while others may need more time to feel stable and ready to move on to outpatient care.

The aim is to provide enough structure and support to help you build coping skills and maintain recovery before transitioning to the next step in your treatment journey.

Addiction PHP Cost & Payment Options

The cost of a PHP varies depending on the length of your stay and the specific services you need. At Recovery In Tune, we accept most major insurance plans, including those covering substance abuse treatment and mental health care.

Depending on your insurance, you may qualify for full or partial coverage. Our team will help verify your insurance benefits and explain what’s covered.

If insurance doesn’t cover everything, we’ll work with you to explore financial options and create a solution that fits your situation. Our goal is to ensure you get the care you need with minimal financial stress.

Now is the perfect time to begin to heal!

What Happens After a PHP?

Completing a PHP is a huge step and one to be celebrated. But at Recovery In Tune, we know that recovery is an ongoing process.

Here are your options after completing a PHP to stay aligned with your recovery goals:

  • Transition to outpatient care for continued support through individual therapy, group therapy, or medication management.
  • Move into sober living homes or recovery residences for a safe environment to maintain accountability while continuing treatment.
  • Community-based support groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA), to strengthen long-term sobriety. These groups help you manage your cravings, prevent relapse, and build a supportive social network.

Aftercare planning ensures you have the resources needed to maintain recovery and thrive in your everyday life. Our clinicians will help create a plan that fits your needs, setting you up for long-term success.
